Holkham Hall: Holkham Hall is the creation of Thomas Coke, who set off on a grand tour of Europe in 1712 and returned six years later, determined to build a Palladian mansion in north Norfolk. Coke had fallen in love with Italy and brought as much of it back with him as he could, now on display to visitors after they pass through what is perhaps the most dramatic entrance to a private house in England.
